Day 43 - Ride Like A Thriver

We woke up knowing that Howie needed to go to the doctor. His joints were giving him a lot of grief.
Oh Howie is our RV. Our “Home On Wheels.” His stick wasn’t going into “Drive” very smoothly, getting stuck more often than not which didn't feel like a good decision to not get it checked out with more than 4,000 miles to go (by the time we get him home to his owners back in Arizona!)

We found the closest RV mechanic and showed up when they opened at 7:30 am. “Normally” they don’t accept walk ins, especially when 3 of their mechanics called out this morning. They promised that they would get to it sometime today.
The best plan we had was to pack an overnight bag, our electric scooters, charger, and Jax’s buggy.
We summoned an XL Uber.

Our Uber driver James, shared that his mom had a journey with breast cancer and shared his story of finding Jesus. We love when we can share our God stories!

We unloaded our gear and Chuck reassembled Jax's buggy.

Our brief pause at The Alamo…Hannah needed food😂

Someone recommended “Schilo’s” - the oldest restaurant in San Antonio, German (with an interesting Mexican twist!)

Chuck went inside to check where we could put our scooters. What happened next was ALL GOD!

Long story short, we “just happened” to walk into a restaurant where a college buddy Chuck had not seen in over 30 years was eating breakfast while on business in San Antonio. He had JUST discovered some of our videos and Facebook page a few days before and thought to himself, “Wouldn't it be cool to see Chuck & Hannah?” and in we walk!

He treated us to breakfast and hilarious tales of their antics as college students. Then he asks, “Do you need a hotel room for the next 2 nights? I’ve got a gazillion points. Let me take care of it for you.”

Only God does that. He positions people to provide for needs in the most awesome mind-blowing ways! We knew He would provide for us but we sure didn't know how!

After saying goodbye to Tony, we headed down an elevator to the Riverwalk level. We explored along the river on the stone sidewalks well manicured with plants and trees, bordered by restaurants and shops a level below the street.

Chuck stopped to ask the Riverboat Tour office if we could bring our scooters on board. The manager Randall, heard our story and came out to take our picture to put on their social media.

We were the second people to board the boat and immediately met Debbie, a stage 4 endometrial cancer thriver traveling around by herself to experience adventures.

Barbara, the tour guide, had suffered a heart attack at 55 and decided to become the oldest tour boat pilot!

She injected humor into significant facts about the San Antonio River keeping her audience laughing.

We scootered around for a bit and found a restaurant with fish tacos and i’ve cold drinks.

Jax is always such a good sport.

Watch as he gets in the buggy on command.
we have a larger version at home that he has been using for 6 years so he is accustomed to riding behind a bike.

We love having this option to explore together since Hannah can’t walk far.

We were hot and dripping sweat by the time we rode the 1.2 miles to the hotel, ready for a cold shower and AC to cool us down.
Chuck offered to scooter the 1/2 mile to get us some fajitas.

Delicious fresh tortillas, ice cold air conditioning, TV that works… God has been giving us way more than we need today - moving people’s hearts to feed us, house us, and put gas on our tank.
Thank you Jesus. We love you.

And we got the call that Howie was fixed! The gear shift just needed to get greased (this morning it took 5 minutes to put into “Drive” so we felt certain it was a big deal.
And they were able to fix the AC unit that was not working at all by giving it a good cleaning and a new filter.
